Fours & Pre-Kindergarten

(4-5 Years old)

Our Pre-Kindergarten program focuses on preparing your child for the exciting transition into kindergarten. The skills necessary to succeed are incorporated into their weekly curriculum. We follow guidelines through Florida VPK standards. Some of the character traits we help the students develop include respect, honesty, responsibility, self-control, tolerance, kindness and citizenship. The classroom environment fosters the children’s initiative and exploration. Each classroom is divided into learning centers. This allows children to learn through play. The curriculum has a main focus on literacy and emergent writing readiness, with homework given on a weekly basis.

Preparing Your Child for Kindergarten

The Preschool program at Kiddie City offers a wide variety of activities to engage your child and prepare him or her for kindergarten. Our focus areas in this program include problem-solving; responsive listening, using language to learn; and social and collaborative skills.

Specifically, your child will learn:

  • Pre-literacy skills

  • Emergent writing skills, fine motor skill tuning

  • Math skills

  • Physical coordination skills

  • Social skills, such as focusing and collaborating.

You can feel confident knowing the lesson plans are customized to meet your child’s developmental needs. Our teachers create plans that are built on research-based learning objectives and driven by each child’s readiness to learn.

Teachers provide regular updates, ongoing portfolio collections, and twice-yearly parent-teacher conferences, to ensure your preschooler is progressing on his or her journey in school readiness.

Curriculum

Intelligence is the way each of us perceive and understand the world as we encounter problems and seek solutions.

This theory provides an approach to nurturing and teaching children that focuses on individual needs and strengths. By providing a variety of experiences to foster each and every intelligence, children become more adept in all intelligences.

Our teaching strategies are designed to maximize the full development of each individual child and recognize how they learn different subjects in different ways, utilizing their intelligence to help each individual child develop further.

  • Phonological awareness: hearing and manipulating groups of sounds (rhymes and syllables) in spoken language

  • Phonemic awareness: hearing, identifying, and manipulating single sounds in spoken words to recognize similarities and differences and how sounds relate to each other

  • Print awareness: understanding the meaning of written language

  • Alphabet knowledge: recognizing that letters are their own unique symbols and each has its own name, sound, shape, and order within the alphabet
